One of a Kind

Swallow Glass began as a song.

A phrase lodged itself in my mind and refused to leave:

"You're going to have to swallow glass."

What began as a lyric became a meditation on endurance, resilience, and the invisible weight people are sometimes asked to carry.

This original artwork begins with layers of oil pastel applied directly to canvas and sealed to preserve the surface beneath the embroidery. Over that foundation, black silk thread forms the figure, rendered in a simple continuous line. Vintage 24-karat gold Japanese thread stretches across the canvas in a network of fractures inspired by broken glass, fault lines, and the ways difficult experiences leave lasting marks.

The gold threads do not hide the damage. They illuminate it.

Swallow Glass explores the space between vulnerability and survival, acknowledging that healing does not erase what happened. The cracks remain visible. The story remains visible. The person remains.
